Site Description The Lady Elgin site covers acres of the bottom with scattered wreckage and artifacts. The two sites with the largest pieces of the ship are the bow area and boiler site which are about a half-mile apart. In the bow site there are four larger pieces of the sides of the ship–one being the starboard forward section which includes the stem of the ship. There is a small section of the hogging arch where it crosses a longitudinal beam in the far corner of the model. There are many looses boards and smaller pieces of the hull. Also in the bow site is a wood stock anchor, a smaller folding anchor, the windlass drum, much anchor chain, and a dual piston pump. At the boiler site are two firebox boilers, a boiler cradle and scattered pieces of pipe. There are other largely scattered small sites not included in the models that were described in Valerie VanHeest’s book Lost on the LADY ELGIN which contains the results of the UASC survey.
