Site Description The Wells Burt sits buried up to the deck in sand with the port side and stern buried a bit deeper. About two-thirds of the deck beams are visible above the sand. Being of later construction there are many unique construction details. The anchor windlass is driven by a capstan which is laying on its side since the forecastle deck is gone. There is some anchor chain near the windlass. There are two other capstans visible on the deck along with hatch coamings, and top of the rudder post. The bitts are mounted uniquely on deck plates and also fastened to the bulwark. Inboard of the forward and aft bitts are large tow bitts four forward and two aft.. The centerboard trunk and centerboard winch are also extant on site with the chain between them still visible. The bow is extant but split with one hawse pipe displaced. The anchor chain chocks are also extant. The chainplates and some deadeyes are visible with nine chainplates on each side of the foremast. Pieces of the rigging are scattered around the bow.
