Site Description The site at the time of this survey was just the aft 30 ft of the bottom of the hull mostly buried in sand and covered with its cargo of iron ore. It is a square stern typical of a scow schooner. The surprising feature of the hull is the steel or iron framing that appears to be interspersed with the wood frames. Although the Helen is not documented to be of composite construction, It appears to be a composite construction of metal channel frames spaced between every two or three wood frames.
