Site Description The site encompasses two wrecks, the Illinois sand sucker dredge barge and the intentionally sunk Holly Barge. The Holley barge is broken about one-third of its length from one end and the sand sucker is mostly disarticulated although has much interesting machinery. The most interesting parts of the machinery are the large sand auger, and 12 ft diameter centrifugal pump, two winches used to maneuver the auger, and much miscellaneous cable, sheaves, and piping scattered around the site. The engine or steam/electric motor system that powered the auger and centrifugal pump is missing which leaves experts guessing at its construction.
