Site Description – Although all three masts are toppled and the aft cabins are gone, the Hume is still amazingly intact. The rudder and base of the steering mechanism is extant on site. There lower sections of the masts rest on deck, with boom tables, and parts of the tops intact. Booms and gaffs are scattered on the site with what appears to be the top  masts, some shrouds and ratlines. Most of the deadeyes are still in place. The bow sprit and jib boom along with its stays are intact. There are two wood stock anchors, and chains, intact manual rachet windlass, and catheads also on site. On the deck are multiple tow bitts, rail bitts, a small section of the side of the aft cabin, and two bilge pumps. The galley stove rests on the cabin support beams. The centerboard trunk is visible below deck but a centerboard winch is not in place though may be a part of the scattered wreckage. Although not shown in the model the hold is empty and can be penetrated through one of the three cargo hatches. The Thomas Hume is a great example of 1870’s schooner rigging.
